The Darden School of Business is the graduate business school associated with the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia. The Darden School offers MBA, Ph.D. and Executive Education programs. The School was founded in 1955 and is on the grounds of the University of Virginia in Charlottesville.
Darden is regularly ranked as being among the Top 15 business schools in the U.S. and Top 30 in the world. Darden’s two-year MBA program combines core and elective courses in Charlottesville, Virginia with opportunities to study abroad.

The Darden MBA delivers a rigorous, case-based academic experience built around an integrated general management curriculum and high levels of classroom engagement. In the first year, all students complete a lockstep core curriculum spanning key business disciplines — such as finance, marketing, operations, strategy and leadership — designed to develop a broad, enterprise-wide perspective through discussion-driven case studies, simulations and teamwork. Rather than lectures, learning is anchored in the Socratic case method, where students analyze real-world business problems, collaborate in small learning teams and actively debate decisions in class, building critical thinking, communication and leadership skills. In the second year, students customize their academic path through a wide range of electives, concentrations and experiential opportunities—such as consulting projects and global courses—allowing them to deepen expertise while continuing to apply knowledge in practical, real-world contexts.

Beyond the classroom, the Darden MBA experience is defined by a close-knit, highly engaged community that extends learning into every aspect of student life. Students participate in a wide range of clubs, leadership opportunities and signature traditions that build lasting relationships and reinforce collaboration, from learning teams and section communities to global treks and student-led conferences. This immersive environment fosters both personal growth and professional development, creating a strong sense of belonging while preparing students to lead and contribute in diverse, team-driven settings.

21 months

Estimated tuition for Fall 2026 which includes tuition, fees and case fess for international student is $42,969. For a broader understanding of the cost of attendance, please visit our Cost of Attendance website that breaks down the costs.

Darden offers a robust portfolio of merit-based scholarships, with all applicants automatically considered during the admissions process. No additional application required. Awards range from modest stipends to full tuition and fees and are based on a holistic review of academic achievement, professional and personal accomplishments, and potential to contribute to the community, with recipients notified at the time of admission. Among the most prestigious are the Oculus Fellowship and the Batten Scholars Program, which can provide full funding for the MBA along with access to distinctive leadership cohorts and enrichment opportunities. Oculus Fellows are selected for exceptional academic excellence and leadership potential, while Batten Scholars are recognized for their commitment to innovation, entrepreneurship and technology—together reflecting Darden’s investment in supporting high-impact leaders and reducing financial barriers to a top-tier MBA.

Darden’s Full-Time MBA offers a flexible set of specializations (which we call Concentrations) that allow students to tailor their academic experience while building deep expertise in high-demand fields. Options span areas such as finance, consulting, marketing, general management and strategy, as well as innovation and entrepreneurship through the Batten Institute. More recently, Darden has introduced a concentration in artificial intelligence and data-driven decision-making, reflecting the growing importance of analytics and emerging technologies in business. Together, these pathways enable students to align their MBA with their career goals while gaining both the technical fluency and leadership perspective needed to operate at the forefront of a rapidly evolving business landscape.

Charlottesville, Virginia

The Darden School of Business is a thriving community of MBA students, faculty, staff, and alumni from a diverse array of racial, ethnic, religious, cultural, socio-economic and sexual orientations. Because of the highly participatory nature of the MBA program — both inside and outside of the classroom — Darden actively recruits and fosters a diverse MBA community.

Darden’s international students continue to find success in an increasingly global economy. Employers seek the diverse, multifaceted skillset that international students bring to the table and that the Career Center team helps cultivate.

In addition to one-on-one career counseling from a Career Center industry expert, international students and students seeking global careers receive coaching from Denise Karaoli, director of international student careers.

A serene, two-hour drive from Washington, D.C., our location in Charlottesville sits at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Central Virginia.

The town’s classical architecture, with Thomas Jefferson’s Academical Village as the centerpiece, provides the backdrop for an upscale town that offers the community of a small city and the vibrancy of a metropolis.

Here, innovative cuisine, a buzzing music scene, the East Coast’s premier wine country, and all that the University of Virginia has to offer — including the nation’s best public education and national championship sports — have some alumni coming back every year. Others stay for good.

User avatar Darden_Virginia International students are limited to certain job opportunities post-grad, but that's not unique to Darden. Our international students have a high placement rate, just as our domestic students do. Our program is also STEM-designated, so you have 3 years to work in the US post-grad.
06-30-2024
11:03:45 pm
User avatar Noa How should international students who are impacted by visa restrictions position themselves to be competitive with other applicants? Do domestic students have an advantage when applying to your programs?
