For those that want a glimpse into the home of our MBA program, check out a story and the photos in our McCombs Magazine: https://issuu.com/mccombsschoolofbusiness/docs/mccombs_spring18_issuu_final/16
Great question, Roni. We highly encourage applicants to have a minimum of 2 years work experience before applying. Here's a snapshot of our class profile: https://www.mccombs.utexas.edu/MBA/Full-Time/Class-Profile
From an application perspective, we'll be looking at three main buckets: your academic background, work experience, and the connection between us, you, and your goals.

Hi, can you talk more about scholarships?
and question number 2: How many years is your program. I only saw the 2 years program. Is there also a shorter program
McCombs
6/10 06:18PM
We do accept GMAT and GRE as test options. We'll be releasing some new updates about waivers and testing soon. We do anticipate continuing to offer waivers for applicants. You can learn more about how we approached waivers this past cycle, here: https://blogs.mccombs.utexas.edu/mba-insider/2020/08/20/mba-covid-19-test-waiver/
Thanks for bringing up scholarships, Guy. Everyone that's admitted into the program is reviewed for a scholarship. You don't need to answer additional questions or submit another essay. Your application provides the details we need for our review. The Texas McCombs MBA Insider blog has information about scholarships and a lot of tips too: https://blogs.mccombs.utexas.edu/mba-insider/2019/08/01/scholarships-financial-aid-at-texas-mccombs/
Scholarship range from $5,000 to full tuition.
Our full time program is about two years. We do not offer a shorter program. You can find more information about the curriculum, concentrations, and electives, here: https://www.mccombs.utexas.edu/MBA/Full-Time/Curriculum
Good question about partners, Bar. We do have a partners club that provides a focus on their experience. We have an MBA calendar that notes the events that are open to partners. Plus, UT Austin offers a lot of events that are open to the public.

Hi, I heard Tesla are moving to Austin. I am in the automobile industry. is there a club / job opportunities in this sector in Austin?

Transcripts are always an interesting part of the application process, David. When applying, we only require a scan of your official transcripts, which is uploaded twice during the process. You will need to supply the paper copy of the official transcripts at a later stage, but many wait till they're on campus to complete that step.
You'd only supply the official copy of the transcript if you enroll into the program.
^^ official paper copy
Great question about test scores, Miriam. Our class profile notes the middle 80% range from 740 to 650. https://www.mccombs.utexas.edu/MBA/Full-Time/Class-Profile

Hi! I wanted to ask how do you treat people with ~10 years of experience? Do you recommend such people (if they are good enough) to come to McCombs?
McCombs

If you think you can increase your score, then I say retake it. You'd want to submit your application when you think it's the strongest.

Hi, A question about military experience effect while applying for an MBA degree. As for myself, an officer serving in the army for the past six years (Captain rank). Through my time in the army, I have both been in operational zones and staff roles, specializing in military intelligence. How is your university admission policy for veterans, having less experience in the labor market?
McCombs
6/10 06:41PM
Thanks for asking the question about work experience, Itay. We do have people with ~10 years of work experience in the program. I find them to be highly sought after by employers do to the experiences they bring to the table. You'll probably want to highlight Why Now in our 3rd optional essay and maybe even bring it up during the interview, if invited.
That's a tough question, Avi. It's hard to know. Whether applications are up or down, the MBA application process requires research, reflection, self-awareness, and a clear Why MBA story.
Thanks for bringing up military experience, Saar. Military experience counts as work experience. It's about identifying the transferrable skills, articulating impact, and translating military work so a civilian can understand. The other component to think through is why an MBA and your goals.

Any idea what will happen next year regarding job offers/summer internships?
McCombs
6/10 06:52PM
Hi Earn, This is from the perspective of what's happening here in Texas and what employers are signaling, which I know varies by country, especially right now. I don't imagine that there will be much fluctuation, especially as we begin to expand vaccine distribution and begin to return to a near normal.

Thank you! Do you think that with some work experience (Say 1-2 years) in the job market, my application will be stronger?
McCombs
6/10 06:55PM
Good question, Yuval. I'd say covid impacted nearly everything. From the way courses were taught to delayed starts on the employment side. Despite covid, we had pretty solid showing from an employment perspective.
Hi Saar, Our average years of work experience is 6 years. We recommend that people apply with a minimum of 2 years. Not only will your application be stronger with more work experience, the content taught in the classroom will also have a greater impact, since you'll have real examples to reflect on and conceptualize against.
Plus, one of the things that I look for when evaluating a candidates work experience is Impact, Results and Leadership. You'll have more stories/experiences to share with more work experience.
Thanks everyone for joining the chat!
