How much work experience do you expect applicants to have?
Northwestern Kellogg
6/10 05:04PM
In terms of reapplying, we encourage applicants to reflect on their application from last time (sometimes the class profile can be helpful in helping candidates understand where there may have been gaps in their application). We would also recommend focusing on tangible growth since your last application in the reapplicant essay!

Hi, A question about military experience effect while applying for an MBA degree. As for myself, an officer serving in the army for the past six years (Captain rank). Through my time in the army, I have both been in operational zones and staff roles, specializing in military intelligence. How is your university admission policy for veterans, having less experience in the labor market?
Northwestern Kellogg
6/10 05:05PM
The average work experience in our 2Y class is 5 years, with a typical range of 3.5 to 7 years.

Would Kellogg have classes in person this fall or will it continue the online learning for some time?
Northwestern Kellogg
6/10 05:06PM
We are planning to be in-person on campus in the fall
Hi Saar! We recognize that veterans have a robust set of experiences that translate well to the MBA but that their career trajectory will look a bit different than someone coming from say, consulting. We evaluate all applicants in the context of their work; we'll be looking to see that you've done some reflection on why you want an MBA and how you want to pivot post-MBA. We have a very active veterans community - I encourage you to get in touch with the Kellogg Veterans Association!

Can you please share what, in your opinion, makes the school unique or different from other top schools?
Northwestern Kellogg
6/10 05:08PM
Hi Noy! Kellogg's uniqueness comes from it's ability to develop leaders - we are a general management school, so while you have the ability to study particular industries and disciplines, we are first and foremost going to equip our students to be strong and capable leaders. Our students do this in a culture that is very teamwork oriented - we like to refer to it as 'high impact, low ego'.

Hi could you please give a holistic view about how you review a resume? I am from India
Northwestern Kellogg
6/10 05:18PM
We look for the resume to tell a story about your career experience, education and interests. It's helpful if you highlight your job responsibilities, impact and areas where you have taken leadership roles. It's also helpful to make sure your resume matches the information you submit in the application form! This really helps us piece together and understand your personal story.

I have an experience of about 1.5 years while applying which would be 2.5 years when I go for my MBA. Would you consider this resume provided it has given business to the firm?
Northwestern Kellogg
6/10 05:21PM
We don't have specific coursework that we recommend; however, if you feel there is an area that you could strengthen (for example, quantitative skills), you can certainly take coursework and let us know about it in the optional essay section of the application. It's really up to you!

Hi Noy! Yes, we have an extremely expansive alumni network of over 65,000 alums across 6 of the 7 continents. Our alums are extremely generous with their time and the ways they give back to the school. We actually have an alumni club of Israel - you can feel free to reach out to the co-presidents: https://www.kellogg.northwestern.edu/alumni/connect/clubs-and-affinity-networks/kellogg-alumni-club-of-israel.aspx

Will Kellogg waive GMAT this year? will you accept the online GMAT?
Northwestern Kellogg
6/10 05:24PM
Anoushka, we really encourage you to apply when you feel your application is at its best and you are ready for the MBA. We are more interested in the quality of the work experience, not the quantity. It's helpful to have some leadership experience as well.
We typically see GRE scores in the mid to upper 80th percentiles!

We will be requiring the GMAT or GRE this year (we also required a test score this past year). We will continue to accept the online exam, as we know there are still challenges in taking the test in person in some parts of the world!

Hi, will it positively affect my candidacy if I am referred by a mentor who is a Kellogg alumn? He may send a note to admissions supoprting my candidacy but I havent worked closely enough to get a recommendation.
Northwestern Kellogg
6/10 05:28PM
Yes - the fastest way to get a response from one of our team members is to email [email protected]!
Hi SD - while we do sometimes see letters come in from an alum, they do not impact the decision a canddiate would receive from us.
We do have a deferred MBA program - Kellogg Future Leaders - for students who are graduating from an undergraduate program and do not have full time work experience yet. For our full time-MBA programs, you would matriculate in the year for which you apply and deferrals are rare, granted on a case-by-case basis. If you are interested, in Kellogg Future Leaders, you can get more information here! https://www.kellogg.northwestern.edu/programs/full-time-mba/kfl-deferred-enrollment-program.aspx

Any general advice for applicants from over represented pools?
Northwestern Kellogg
6/10 05:32PM
The advice I would give is the same for any candidate; apply when you are most ready rather than rushing your application (if you need more time to work on your application or retake a test, you should wait and apply in Round 2). I would also make sure that your application tells a cohesive story of where you have been and where you are looking to go post-MBA. Even in large pools, your combination of experiences is going to look completely different than anyone elses!

Hi Yoni! We do typically look for applicants with at least 2-2.5 years of work experience at the start of the program. Our average incoming student has 5 years of work experience.

Hi! I wanted to ask how do you treat people with ~10 years of experience? Do you recommend such people (if they are good enough) to come to Kellogg?
Northwestern Kellogg
6/10 05:44PM
Hi Shai! With visas, we are still supporting international students through the visa process. It does seem like many of our incoming students have been able to secure appointments to get their visas, which is exciting! After students are admitted, Kellogg issues I-20 documents and then stays in touch with international students to make sure we are aware of where they are in the visa process.
Hi Itay, while our average incoming student has about 5 years of work experience, we do admit students with a range of experience. While 10 years is on the higher end of work experience for our incoming students, it really depends on your individual situation. We'd encourage you to share your personal story in your application to help us better understand how the MBA fits in with your work experience and career goals!

Itay, it's hard to say exactly without knowing the situation, but sometimes we see a higher end of work experience when people have spent time in the military or have made a significant career pivot. We encourage our applicants to use the optional essay if they feel they need to add more context to their personal situation!
